There are so many great knobs and pulls everywhere these days – beautiful, and unique pieces that are eye catching and impossible to resist. I just can’t pass by the fun patterns and bright colors in porcelain and glass so over time I decided to start collecting them as I knew I would be able to use them one day for a fun design project.
Well, I’ve been shoving all of my collected knobs and pulls in a drawer for years now and I have finally decided that I want to enjoy them year round and not just when I open the drawer! So in today’s blog post, I am sharing with you a few design tips for making the most out of your beautiful collectibles – they don’t have to be knobs or pulls as these crafty DIY tips will work with any small decorative object, such as sea shells, buttons, bottle caps, or whatever pretty little item collection you just can’t seem to resist.
Follow these guidelines and you are sure to hit this home decorating trick out of the park:
Fill a simple glass jar with a little arranging and voila!
A collection of different textures, patterns and colors are inherently beautiful and an easy way to combine all of your favorite treasures. Place the jar with a top, in fact, you can replace the knob of the jar top as well, or keep the jar without it’s lid for easy access, atop a pile of stacked books on the coffee table or side table.
Shopping Tip: Anthropologie offers an amazing collection of vintage knobs.
Design Tip #1
Keep similar objects together. If you try to combine more than one object in a glass jar, it will look messy and cluttered. To make sure your DIY project looks well planned, stick to one object per container.
Design Tip #2
Give your collection a boundary. Make sure whatever object you are showcasing has a defined space and are not randomly placed on a table or counter. Using a jar, dish, platter or tray is a great way to give your items a purpose. In a previous design job, I once arranged a tray of small frames with my client’s grandchildren in them and it served as a very meaningful conversation piece.
Design Tip #3
Have fun with it! Buy a jar or tray that you really love to display your favorite collection. These DIY decorating ideas with unusual knobs and fun collections are an easy and effective way to enjoy your treasures… they no longer need to be shoved into drawers. Set them free!
